Sometimes sanding and refinishing alone cannot fix all damage to a wood floor. For instance, if the wood floor has black stains, these many times can be attributed to pet urine and are not likely to come out with just sanding. These areas would have to be replaced first, and then the floor could be sanded and finished.

Water damage is another area where a floor might need repairs. The area affected could be removed and the new floor laced in. Although sometimes, if water damage is minimal and the wood is a solid material, the floor can be resurfaced to correct the problem.

Minor scratches on stained floors can be repaired with a touch-up kit from the floor manufacturer or with a matching stain pen.

Deep scratches and gouges will require board replacement or sanding and finishing.
