Bamboo

Bamboo flooring comes from the Moso Bamboo plant, which is considered a grass. When harvested at full maturity, 5-7 years, bamboo is actually harder than red oak. Stalks are split into slats, which are kiln dried. The slats are laminated with an environmentally friendly adhesive under pressure. Stranded (strand woven) bamboos are compressed so densely, they are 100% harder than red oak.

Cork

Cork comes from the bark of the cork oak tree. Every 9-14 years the bark is stripped from the tree without harming it. Cork can be resurfaced like hardwood flooring. The cellular structure of cork gives it air pockets, making it softer on your feet and a great noise reducer.

Mulberry

After the silkworms have consumed the green leafy materials of the mulberry tree to produce silk, the branches were usually burned or thrown away. Now, the branches are dried, the bark is stripped and the remaining wood pieces are compressed and bonded together to make one of the strongest and beautiful natural flooring choices available.

Reclaimed Hardwood

Reclaimed hardwood comes from several sources. River recovered logs are many times converted into flooring such as heart pine. Old barn beams can be milled into flooring. Sometimes old buildings scheduled for demolition contain reusable flooring that is salvaged. Heart pine and oak are the most popular reclaimed hardwoods available.
